Insights & Perspectives: How Emerging Population Trends Will Impact How We Work Together Meeting Community Needs

Tom Gillaspy, Minnesota state demographer with 31 years' experience will highlight current population trends and how these trends will impact the Anoka County communities during the next decade. Beyond the statistics, Tom will site examples of how the aging of Minnesotans, the increasingly diverse population of Anoka County and state wide economic factors will change how faith communities, non-profits and local government look and function. He will help us understand what the "new normal" is & suggest ways we can work together in these changing times to best meet the needs of our community.

Breakout Sessions will focus on....

Economic Factors – how far reaching will the impacts of the current economic environment be for our community? A panel of local speakers will address how factors such as employment options, education levels, and skills training will affect the people we serve.

The Silver Tsunami – what does the aging of our population mean for faith communities, non-profits & local government in Anoka County? Hear from the perspective of a local faith community & a senior center how they are making changes to accommodate this trend. Also, learn what resources are currently available to Anoka County seniors and their families.

Growing Ethnic Diversity – what will Minnesota look like in 10 years and how will that change the way we do business? Representatives from a local school district, faith community and community health department will discuss how this trend is impacting how they function.

Program Objectives – It is our goal that participation in this forum will serve as a catalyst to:

A community discussion about how the current local demographics will impact community needs
Assist community organizations, using their assets, to develop responses to these needs
Encourage collaboration among participants to utilize and develop resources to meet changing
